1600 Military Time

Convert 1600

1600 → hour 16 → subtract 12 → 4:00 PM. From standard time, 4:00 PM + 12 = 16 → 1600. School dismissals and early second shifts lean on this hour because it is easy to announce.

How to say 1600

Say “sixteen hundred.” Some civilian workplaces still say “sixteen hundred hours”; either form points at 4:00 PM.

Timezone note

Do not translate 1600 into another city’s clock without naming the zone. 1600 Eastern is mid-afternoon on the East Coast and still morning on the West Coast in absolute UTC terms — the digits alone do not travel.

Payroll / decimal hours

1600 is a whole-hour punch: 16.00 decimal. Ending at 1600 after a 0800 start is an 8.00-hour day before meal deductions — a common full-time pattern on early shifts.

1600 and “sixteen hundred hours”

In movies you hear “sixteen hundred hours” as a dramatic beat. On a real schedule the important part is the 1600 digits; whether your shop appends “hours” is style, not math.
